Essex

Blog Post

I feel that Essex can have a bad image with some people. Granted, not every where is nice, but given a bit of time and exploring, even Essex has some hidden gems to visit!

Big Brother

Firstly, it doesn’t all look like this..

Some parts are full of history, local culture, and very pretty!

St. Mary's

Such as Dedham!

Mersea sunset

Or Mersea Island!

And Walton-on-the-Naze!

Plus, it has the incredible Colchester Zoo, which is ranked 2nd in the UK and 11th in the world! I love visiting here to learn more about all the different species that they care for, and feel happy that I’m engaging with conservation projects that reach as far as South Africa! Its also allowed me to get some shots or animals that are otherwise not so easy to come by:

Monkey-ing Around

Chimpanzees

Lioness

Lions!

Timone Scouting a Bird

And Meerkats!

The Beth Chatto Gardens are another highlight that I myself have only recently discovered, but have become a personal favourite of mine

About us
The Beth Chatto Gardens began in 1960. From an overgrown wasteland of brambles, parched gravel and boggy ditches it has been transformed using plants adapted by nature to thrive in different conditions, an inspirational, informal garden has developed.
About
The accompanying plant nursery stocks over 2000 plants, all sold by growing conditions. While the light and airy tearoom allow visitors to relax and take in their surroundings over a homemade cake.
The tearoom is also the venue for events and workshops. Held all year round they cover a large range of interests from gardening lectures, painting workshops and craft fairs.

Who knew Essex was this green?

Although I can definitely by guilty of moaning about where I live, photography has really allowed me to explore the hidden beauties that Essex as a county has to offer.

Where are your favourite places to visit?

Flying

It looks pretty sweet from the sky too
